Ankogel (3.252 meter) is a classic 3000+ peak in the Ankogel Group located in the High Tauern National Park, Austria. Its historic relevance is greater than the significance of its elevation: it is said to be the birthplace of alpinism as the first successful ascent was in the mid of the 18th century, way before other peaks in the Alps.
A summer climb on Ankogel doesn’t have much technical difficulty and it is also an ideal location to challenge yourself in winter conditions. In case you have some summer mountain climbing experience on other easier alpine peaks, you are ready to join us for an Ankogel climb.
The normal route starts at Hannoverhaus (2.565 meter), goes via Klein Ankogel (3.096) and after the summit it descends on the same route.
